About Us

Serai was founded in 2026 by Ela Desai and Anika Gehani, two students at the University of Pennsylvania who have always loved jewelry and used it as a way to express themselves.

For us, bold jewelry has always been more than an accessory. It’s a form of expression, identity, and confidence. Over the years we borrowed constantly: from each other, from our mothers, from our sisters and friends. Those exchanges taught us something simple. Statement jewelry is best when it’s shared. Without the pressure of buying a piece outright, we reached for styles we never would have chosen on our own, and found new versions of ourselves in the process.

Serai is built on that idea. Our collection of 50 pieces is split into two lines. The Launch Collection is hand-curated from small, independent designers whose work we love and want to share. The Vintage Collection is made up of one-of-one pieces we’ve gathered over the past year, each with its own history. Rentals come in bundles of one, three, or five pieces, so you can commit to a single statement piece or build an entire look. Every piece is professionally cleaned and sanitized before it ships, then returns to circulation for the next person to make it their own.

We’re starting on Penn’s campus this October, with plans to grow through a network of campus ambassadors across the country. Our goal is to become the place people turn to when they want to wear something unforgettable without the price of owning it forever.

Why Serai

Our name comes from caravanserai, the roadside inns that lined the trade routes stretching from Persia to the Ottoman world. Travelers from distant places stopped there to rest and trade, and in doing so, cultures blended, goods changed hands, and new styles took shape. We want Serai to be that kind of place: a meeting point for exchange and experimentation, where maximalism is shared rather than hoarded, and where every piece carries a little of everyone who has worn it.

Wear more. Own less.
